Siemens Controller

This model was produced for use as a hand-held prop at an event.  Although we are usually only given a few drawings on paper, a photo, or a description of what is needed, we were provided very few details, in this case.  As long the purpose and focus of the model is clear, and the […]

Hanna Ranch

The best way to get approval on a project in its early conception stages is to present a high quality model.  Not just any model will do.  It must be made to scale, with just the right touches of realism to allow the viewer to get a feel for the finished project.  Moreover, it must […]

Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital

Models of hospitals are made for fundraising and design review purposes, as well as for obtaining community support and city approval.  It is a long, complex, and challenging process as the developer seeks to satisfy all parties, while taking substantial financial risks.  Imagine being one of the people responsible to design and pay for a […]

Column Capitals For San Francisco Opera’s Don Giovanni

This is one of three rather large-sized column capitals that were CNC machined into rigid polyurethane foam.  Starting with this precisely machined form, molds were made and multiples were cast and attached to the columns, all to dress the set for San Francisco Opera’s performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.

Hacienda Cabo Phase II

The designer and developer team on this project wanted to make sure we were sensitive to the artistry of their design and what was required of us to make this a successful model.  With our company’s focus on Model Art™ this project was a perfect match for our talents and skills.  While building the model, […]

Hacienda Cabo Study

The architect’s intention for this study model was to ‘wow’ the marketing and developer clients with details, without getting into the time and expense of a true marketing model.  The clients were so impressed that they asked us to immediately start work on a highly detailed and highly realistic version for their sales office.

Bay Bridge ZPMC Plaque

Our concept started with a graphic on a t-shirt and an interesting, freshly minted, bronze medallion. The goal was to make a plaque that incorporated the medallion and a stylized silhouette of the bridge.  Instead of simply gluing it all together and calling it a day, we machined recesses into the walnut plaque for both […]

20th Harriman Award

The E.H. Harriman Award is an annual award presented to American railroad companies in recognition for outstanding safety achievements.  We were presented with the opportunity to design and build the award in 2009.  This mockup is a representation of what we had in mind for the award’s Gold medal recipients.

222 19th Street

What started as a concept for a ‘simple’ model to present to the City of Oakland, turned into a complex model that had all of the essential architectural elements for a sales center presentation, except internal lights.  One could easily be misled by the small 9″ x 8″  footprint translating to simplicity.  In this case, […]

222 Park Lane

This is a good example of how a quality presentation of a residence can be made with sufficient detail from simple study model materials and professional processes.  Really good trees help!

1100 Broadway

Various materials and model making processes were used to produce the right ‘soft’ look and feel for presentation to the City of Oakland.  They now have a suitable long-term promotion piece as the project is further designed and developed toward final approvals and construction.  The context was made of basswood, and included an existing building […]

1515 Third Street

In order to emphasize their unique design, the architects at Gensler requested that we create a more transparent effect for the windows than our usual back-painted technique.  The mid-rise building design also required that we model a detailed perforated screen structure on the outside of the building, which we accomplished by painting metal-etched supports that […]

AOS Litigation Demonstration

We build a lot of intellectual property models for defendants in patent challenge cases, filling their need to present hard to ascertain differences between two patents before a jury.  Using models can help a jury visualize the physical differences and make an informed decision.

Aquarium of the Pacific

You never know if chipboard will conform properly to a particular shape until you try it.  This aquarium’s design structure is smart, conjuring up the look and feel of waves.  That same effect had to work on our model, and in very short order.  Luckily, chipboard does bend, at least as much as we needed it […]

Arpeggio

Large scale models are all about experiencing a place well before it actually exists.  This scale affords us the opportunity to simulate colors and textures of materials in a highly realistic way that is often not practical at smaller scales.  At Gemmiti Model Art, one of our mantras is “if you are going to do it, do […]

ASM Computer Chip

Sometimes, we are asked to model something and it’s importance is not readily apparent; that was the case in this model of a computer chip for a trade show exhibit.  During the building process, we knew it would attract attention for its detail and intricacy with lots of colors and lights, but we were unaware […]

Cardiac Centre of Bahrain

We rushed, then waited to hear how this model was received by the Prime Minister of Bahrain.  Upon the architects’ return, they were happy to report that he “liked it so much that he replaced a model of a mosque on his desk with it.”

Blue Star Corner

The developers of this loft project in Emeryville were the first to make loft-living commonplace in the Bay Area.  As pioneers of the development concept, they wanted their new design to use a diversity of materials to challenge the cookie-cutter look of many other loft projects.  Since this focus made the project unique, we recommended […]

Bovine Growth Hormone (DNA Strand)

This model was made for a courtroom presentation.  The double-helix sections were made with plastic and wood beads on twisted rods.  They were mounted on clear acrylic tubing, capped off on the ends, screwed, and tapped so that they could mount to each other in different configurations.  The circular pieces included magnetic removable sections to […]

Calisolar Cell Process

Because we serve a wide range of industries, we occasionally have the opportunity to handle objects and materials that defy logic and common sense.  In the case of the Calisolar Cell Process, our job was to put the essential elements of the story on display in their lobby.  In the process, we witnessed the construction […]

Chateau St. Michelle

We made this prototype of the north west winery’s retail point-of-purchase display for use in pricing multiples offshore.  We vacuum-formed the entire roof as a single part; an improbable solution considering the length of the pull.  We were determined, however, to design it with the fewest assembly steps possible, while still maintaining a high quality […]

Cemwood Roofing Exhibit

In a courtroom, it is a great advantage to able to pick something up off a table and show the jury what you are talking about.  Sometimes, there is no better way to point something out then to do so literally.  This model was made for this express purpose.

Cliffs at Keowee Springs

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of South Carolina, the gorgeous homes at Cliffs at Keowee Springs are nestled in pristine woods with a country club at the top of a hill!  This first model shows the overall property, for orientation and sales purposes, and features: the layout of the road system, the size of […]

Cooper Power Exhibit

This model was built for a trade show to aid in illustrating the various types of Cooper Power transformers.  We used a combination of materials including acrylic, brass I-beam stock, and metal etchings.  Displaying both classic above ground and modern, subtler, underground configurations, the model features the range of Cooper Power’s products laid out on […]

Exploratorium Observatory

When the Exploratorium Observatory relocated from the Palace of Fine Arts to Piers 15 & 17, the best approach (in practical, visual, tactile, and scientific terms) to thoroughly plan ahead its move was through the use of a scale model.  This was a study model made from laser cut museum board (no pun intended) with open roofs […]

Gerald Desmond Bridge

Working towards an engineering competition, we made one model of the entire span of the bridge showing one proposed design.  We then made three separate tower models showing alternative tower designs.  This way, our clients were able to present three different bridge concepts using just one large model.

Freight Car Gifts

Using commercially made elements (in this case, the trucks and the ladders) can help us to streamline our process and create excellent realism.  Because these models were given as gifts to people who had worked closely with full-sized versions of these cars over many years, the details needed to be perfect.  To make sure the […]

Legal Arguments Gifts

Coming up with a good gift idea for any team is tricky business.  With this gift, the point is made abundantly clear, with no knowledge details of the particular case victory.  The idea was to do something unique with the base and keep it simple: we designed a thick acrylic platform that framed the centerpiece.  […]
